Not only is the activity accessible to beginners at modest prices, but it is also a sport enjoyed by many, allowing people to switch between pristine, snow-clad mountains in no time.

People often confuse XC and Nordic Skiing. XC is the short form for cross-country, and Nordic refers to the place of the region of cross-country skiing. It is also another word for cross-country skiing. However, there are two different styles involved in cross-country skiing.

  • Classic skiing: It is the original and raw version of the sort, which typically involves a straight line stride, called diagonal stride or kick and glide. If a person mentions they are going cross-country skiing, it usually means they are going for the classic skiing option.
  • Skate skiing: This is another form of skiing that involves skiing, like movements on a skater on ice. This is much faster than classic ones and often used by professionals.

A throughout use of the right equipment and gear is important to master the sport of cross-country skiing. You can either rent or buy the ears and equipment. Some of the essential equipment required is:

  • Skis: The style and type of ski depend on your weight and expertise in the soport.
  • Boots and bindings: Boots and bindings are essential concerns for beginner skiers. Without the right fitting of the boots, people often tend to fall and get hurt. Your boots should be comfortable and flexible to move around and have some air.
  • Poles: The poles should be correct with printing edges to pierce through the snow, and the length should be even with your armpits. Although skiing poles work better, you can also check for trekking poles accompanied by snow baskets.

What to wear during cross-country skiing

The right clothes are as important as the right gear. Here are some tips on what to wear during the activity:

  • Layering up: Since it is an activity outdoors in the cold, snow clad-mountains, it is best to dress in layers. You must note that you will generate heat and warmth as you move. Hence, wearing coats and jackets in layers can remove one layer if it’s too hot for you. There are no special clothes or clothing apparel for skiing. Your regular trekking clothes and jackets should do the trick.
  • Hat and gloves: Since skiing takes place in the cold, your hands and ears can move easily and numb. Hence, it is best to carry a pair of gloves and a hat to prevent chills from entering your body and keep you numb throughout the entire activity.
